This practical planning guide will help you develop and deliver effective solutions to behavioural challenges. It is part of NHS Health Scotland's strategy to support NHS Health Boards in the delivery of health improvement social marketing initiatives. Social marketing also fits with the Quality Strategy which has effectiveness, person-centeredness and patient safety as key drivers for the NHS in Scotland.

The Guide will benefit those who have prior knowledge of social marketing and are interested in extending or refreshing their knowledge in certain areas and those with limited or no knowledge who will find the layout and tools comprehensive.

At each stage of the process: Getting Started, ScopingDevelopment, ImplementationEvaluationFollow-up, a number of ‘Task Areas' are identified which describe the ‘Task Activities' you may need to carry out for each area. Each activity is described in more detail, including setting out how you might carry out the task with helpful ‘Top tips' and advice. The design allows novices and experts to use the Guide providing a different level of detail dependent on the users experience.
